Affinity Designer – Professional Graphic Design Software.13 Best Adobe XD Alternatives In

Let's compare Adobe XD, Figma, and Affinity Designer on a small design you should still be able to download Adobe XD beta for free. The Affinity Designer is a cheaper alternative to Adobe Illustrator, which is especially suitable for someone who is in the early stage of a.

This software application comes first in our list because it is currently the design application most used for prototyping at WorkingMouse. Adobe XD features a simple interface which is very easy to navigate and allows designers to create art boards which match the screen sizes of common devices.

Arranging the screen order and clickable area of prototypes is also very straightforward, involving simply clicking on an element and using the prototyping wire tool to 'link' it to another area of the prototype. Prototypes can be saved to the cloud for others to view and comment on when prototyping is complete. Perhaps one of the most attractive things, however, about Adobe XD is its price point: as of this writing, it's free as long as you have an Adobe account, no active Creative Cloud subscription required.

Balsamiq is an industry-standard tool to produce low-fidelity wireframes. Low-fidelity wireframes equates to greyscale or black and white representations of the application where the focus is on the overall structure rather than the fine details.

Because of this, it is most useful towards the early stages of prototyping where designers transition from pencil sketches to digitised versions of the UI.

One of Balsamiq's greatest strengths is in its total simplicity - because it is geared towards creating wireframes, it means that the interface is incredibly straightforward to use. In fact, Balsamiq is widely considered to be one of the easiest prototyping software applications to use. Basically: if you can use Microsoft Word or create an email, then you will have no problems picking up Balsamiq.

Aside from the speed with which these wireframes can be produced, one of the best benefits of Balsamiq are its collaborative possibilities. Because Balsamiq is so incredibly easy to use, it means that Product Owners can get involved with the wireframing process directly if they so wish.

One of the most well-known prototyping tools for user interfaces is InVision. InVision has been around for a long time and is mostly focused on UX and team collaboration.

Team members can log in online to view, edit and create projects, without the need to download a desktop app. Upload screenshots, designs or other images from your computer to create the base interface for an InVision project, and then use the tools within the app to link elements, create hover states and craft a well-honed user experience. Because you can access InVision anywhere, it is a platform agnostic tool, whereas some prototyping software is locked to a specific operating system.

And, of course, InVision provides a hosting environment for your prototypes as well as a way to get feedback on them. It is worth pointing out that InVision is not a complete design tool; you would need to design your screens and assets using another app and then import them into InVision for prototyping.

You must enable JavaScript to fully view this webpage. If it is not enabled, your experience will be limited and you will be unable to purchase products, complete forms or load images and videos. Professional photo editing, page layout, graphic design and illustration — available for Mac, Windows and iPad, subscription free.

Best in class for creating concept art, print projects, logos, icons, UI designs, mock-ups and more, our powerful design app is already the choice of thousands of professional illustrators, web designers and game developers who love its silky-smooth combination of vector and raster design tools. From books, magazines and marketing materials, to social media templates, website mock-ups and other projects, this next-generation publishing app gives you the power to combine your images, graphics and text to make beautiful layouts ready for publication.

Just as powerful as their desktop counterparts, Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer for iPad give you the power to create stunning work, wherever you are.

However, since all three programs have changed quite a bit in the past year, it is worth taking a closer look at whether Sketch's dominant position is still justified at all.

Sketch has managed to appeal to a broad user base in recent years. This is due, among other things, to the clean user interface, which provides easy access for new users. At the same time, Sketch is a powerful vector graphics editor that scores particularly well when it comes to designing for different end devices.

The screen designs are created via different artboards and make it possible to keep track of changes for different screen sizes. Sketch's two biggest plus points are its powerful symbols and libraries and its plug-in friendliness. The latter allows for the addition of functions that are not found natively in the software. One of the biggest negatives of Sketch, however, is its platform dependency.

The software is only available for the Mac and can only be installed on Windows computers with the help of resource-consuming emulators. This is probably the biggest disadvantage that has driven new potential users into the arms of the competition in the past. But Sketch is also not necessarily the first choice for working in teams. Simultaneous editing of a project by several team members is not possible out of the box and can only be realized through plug-ins.

However, the advantage here is that Sketch has been opened up to third-party providers. Another shortcoming is that the nesting of pages was abolished some time ago.

Some users mourn the loss of this function and have therefore looked around for alternatives. No fully functional web version you can browse projects and review designs, but can't create anything from scratch. Figma has finally taken a different path. This design tool still allows the use of nested pages and thus enables more flexibility in design.

But the tool, which was released in , has also developed into a real competitor for Sketch in other respects. The basis of Figma is adapted to the browser. This is particularly advantageous if you want to work platform-independently. Especially smaller companies that do not necessarily rely on Apple's operating system or work with Linux can benefit from Figma. In terms of speed and stability, Figma is in no way inferior to the top dog Sketch, despite the fact that it is a browser application.

The downer, however, is the dependence on an active internet connection. At the same time, Figma takes advantage of this. The design tool makes it possible for teams to work on a project at the same time. In this way, tasks can be distributed sensibly, comments can be written and teamwork can be improved.

This saves time because ultimately the work remains in the cloud and the current version does not have to be awkwardly exchanged between the project partners at the end of the day.

This all-in-one design tool is available in three main packages, so you can choose the one that suits you best. Adobe XD from Adobe Systems, which also appeared in , has gained some additional features, especially in the past year and a half.

The Auto-Animate function and Linked Symbols are just two of the software's useful innovations. Adobe XD can be used either in the cloud or with a locally stored file. The former is particularly suitable for working in teams, as this enables simultaneous editing. Apps that have already been subscribed to, such as Adobe Fonts, can be used by Adobe XD without any problems. Thus, Adobe XD benefits from the other products of the manufacturer and its years of experience.

Especially for teams, however, the free version is not sufficient and so a subscription has to be taken out again. Unfortunately, the symbols and libraries in Adobe XD are not quite as extensive as in Sketch.

This makes the software functionally less extensive, but not necessarily worse. Vectornator is a highly rated graphic design app and a great Sketch alternative, but does its popularity really say anything about its power and purpose?

In this case, we think it does. Vectornator offers advanced features for a free service. Unlike many other apps, Vectornator offers a lot with its free plan and doesn't hide essential services behind a paywall.

Beginners and budget-conscious users will love this design tool. Vectornator's novice-friendly editor allows users to create and edit vectors at will, design user interfaces and perform a variety of similar functions. InVision integrated with Sketch via its Craft plugin, but then developed its own software called InVision Studio to compete with Sketch InVision Studio was designed as a prototyping tool by designers for designers.

Unfortunately, designers didn't love the software. But you shouldn't write off InVision completely. It's still a good alternative to Sketch because it allows easy collaboration and handover to frontend developers. In addition, InVision simplifies the process of design presentation and is far more effective than sending files in PDF format. Designers looking for design software with team collaboration and seamless hand-off to developers.
